Why is an oil spill a problem for your home?

A spill of diesel or kerosene from your oil tank is harmful and poses a number of potential hazards - these include environmental contamination, risks to human health and risks to nearby property.
Human Risks - Oil contains chemicals which can cause adverse effects to human health. This will largely depend on the level in which you are exposed to the vapours, the strength of the chemicals, and the length of time you have been exposed. In order to reduce these risks, it is important to keep your home ventilated, avoid direct contact with the oil and contact AES Marconi as soon as you suspect an oil leak.

Environmental Risks - Home heating oil poses significant environmental risks. Kerosene, typically used as heating oil, has the potential to pollute water, kill birds and marine wildlife and destroy plant life in the contaminated area.
Property Risks - When oil is spilt, it can often be found within the area of the foundations due to the presence of highly permeable materials imported during the construction process. Not only can this result in strong oily smells within the home, but if left untreated, can impregnate the foundations and, in extreme cases, may require structural works.
AES Marconi’s experience in domestic remediation allows us to draw on extensive knowledge to ensure the most effective remedial strategy is recommended, thereby minimising these risks.
